Agarose IV (Highest Gel Strength)

Agarose IV is a linear polymer with a very high molecular weight, giving gel structures unlike those of traditional agaroses.  This characteristic produces a strong intercatenary interaction, yeilding a gel with very high gel strength and higher exclusion limit.

For improved resolution, we recommend storing the gel at 4°C for 30 minutes before use.

Specifications:

  • Moisture: ≤ 7%
  • Ash: ≤ 0.25%
  • EEO (Electroendosmosis): ≤ 0.12
  • Sulfate: ≤ 0.12%
  • Clarity (NTU): ≤ 4
  • Gel Strength 1% (g/cm²): ≥ 1800
  • Gel Strength 1.5% (g/cm²): ≥ 3200
  • Gelling Temperature 3% (°C): ≤ 36±1.5
  • Melting Temperature 3% (°C): ≤ 88±1.5
  • DNase/ RNase Activity: None Detected
  • Gel Background: Very Low

Appropriate Agarose Concentrations:

Gel Concentration TAE Buffer [1X]

1.8%

200-5,000bp
1% 400-10,000bp
0.8% 1,000-15,000bp
0.5% 2,000-20,000bp
0.3% 3,000-40,000bp

Migration in the TBE Buffer is slower, therefore lower concentrations can be used to obtain similar separation ranges.

Applications:

  • Conventional Electrophoresis
  • Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis: Due to its higher exclusion limit, large molecules can be separated
  • Blotting
  • Agarose Bead Preparation
  • Cell and Enzyme Immobilization
