G-Biocide-III is sodium azide based preservative. Azide anions bind to trivalent iron in porphyrin complexes and inhibit the activity of catalase, peroxidases and cytochrome oxidases. It acts as bacteriostatic by inhibiting cytochrome oxidase.
A 1% aqueous solution of sodium azide [154mm] for use as a preservative for laboratory reagents. The use of the 1% solution is convenient and minimizes exposure and contamination risks normally encountered while handling sodium azide powder.
