The following supplies are used in agarose gel electrophoresis. Products include reagents for preparation of gels, running agarose gels and staining gels.
Agarose: A low melt agarose for casting gels. Supplied in a convenient 50gm size.
TAE Buffer: A concentrated 50 times (50X) TAE (Tris, acetate & EDTA, pH 8.2) buffer solution for running agarose electrophoresis. Simply dilute the buffer solution (1:50) in water and use. Supplied in 100ml bottles.
DNA Loading Buffer: Contains a blue dye for easy visualization during loading DNA samples and monitoring the rate of migration. The loading buffer contains a buffer that ensures the DNA sample sinks to the bottom of the well. 1.5ml of a 6 times concentrated solution is supplied.
DNA Stain: For easy and safe visualization of DNA bands, a 500 times concentrated DNA stain based on the non-toxic methylene blue dye is available. Although less sensitive than the routinely used ethidium bromide, it is non toxic and ideal for school laboratory use. One vial is sufficient for 500ml DNA stain. DNA Stain detects ~100ng DNA.
