LB Broth & LB Agar
The bacterial growth media available are LB (Luria and Bertani); both as liquid and solid media for making solid growth matrices and bacterial plates, such as Petri Dishes. The LB media supplies all the nutrients required for bacterial growth.
The bacterial growth media available are LB (Luria and Bertani); both as liquid and solid media for making solid growth matrices and bacterial plates, such as Petri Dishes. The LB media supplies all the nutrients required for bacterial growth.
LB Broth is for liquid culture and is supplied as a ready to use format or as convenient size dry powder packs.
LB Broth (Premade): 100ml ready-to-use liquid broth that does not require any preparation and can be used as supplied.
LB Broth: A dry powder format that requires the addition of water and subsequent autoclaving to sterilize before use. Supplied as a set of 10 convenient individual use packs. Each pack sufficient to make 100ml LB Broth. Larger 50gm size packs are also available.
LB Agar: is for solid phase bacterial growth and is supplied as a premade format or as convenient size dry powder packs.
LB Agar (Premade): Available in a premade format, simply heat in a boiling waterbath or microwave to melt and pour into Petri dishes. Each 100ml bottle makes up to 7 Petri dishes.
LB Agar: A dry powder format that requires addition of water and subsequent autoclaving to sterilize before use. Supplied as a set of 10 convenient individual use packs. Each pack sufficient to make 150ml LB agar or up to 10 Petri dishes. Larger 50gm size packs are also available.
Antibiotics: Antibiotics are required for selection of bacteria that contain antibiotic resistant genes. The most common antibiotic is ampicillin and is supplied as a powder.
Antibiotic Discs: In addition, for screening and testing of antibiotic resistance, small discs impregnated with different antibiotics are available. The discs are available with ampicillin, nalidixic acid, penicillin and tetracycline. Blank discs are available to prepare your own screening discs.
IPTG & X-Gal: IPTG (Isopropyl-b-D-thiogalactopyranoside) for chemical induction of regulated plasmids, X-gal (5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-b-D-galactopyranoside) a non-inducing chromogenic substrate for b-galactosidase and blue white screening and DMF, a solvent for X-gal, are available.
Petri Dishes: Sterile Petri dishes for preparing LB agar plates are available in packs of 10.
