Immobilized Cefalexin

Cephalexin is a cephalosporin antibiotic which disrupts the synthesis of the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell walls. Peptidoglycan synthesis is aided by transpeptidase known as pencillin-binding proteins (PBP). Cephalexin inhibits PBP3 and other penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs).

Immobilized Cephalexin  is made by covalently coupling cephalexin to 6% cross linked agarose and is used for isolating cephalexin binding proteins, receptors and specific antibodies.
