Immobilized Streptomycin


Streptomycin Sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic and has a bactericidal action against many gram-negative bacteria. It binds to the S12 protein on the ribosomal 30S subunit and inhibits protein synthesis

 

 Immobilized Streptomycin is made by covalentlly coupling streptomycin to 6% cross linked agarose and is used for isolating streptomycin binding proteins, receptors and specific antibodies

  • Coupling is covalent through linkage of amino or carboxyl group depending upon the antibiotic to the pre-activated agarose.
