Immobilized Tetracycline

Tetracycline is a bacteriostatic antibiotic with activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Within the cell tetracycline binds reversibly to the 30S subunit of the ribosome, preventing the binding of aminoacyl tRNA and inhibiting protein synthesis and hence cell growth.

Immobilized Tetracycline is made by covalentlly coupling tetracycline to 6% cross linked agarose and is used for isolating tetracycline binding proteins, receptors and antibodies
