Description phospholipid transfer protein(PLTP) Homo sapiens The protein encoded by this gene is one of at least two lipid transfer proteins found in human plasma. The encoded protein transfers phospholipids from triglyceride-rich lipoproteins to high density lipoprotein (HDL). In addition to regulating the size of HDL particles, this protein may be involved in cholesterol metabolism. At least two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008],
Cell Pathway/ Category PPAR,
Protein Expression Brain,Liver,Placenta,Plasma,Umbilical vein endothelial cell,
Subcellular Localization extracellular region,extracellular space,
Protein Function function:Converts HDL into larger and smaller particles. May play a key role in extracellular phospholipid transport and modulation of hdl particles.,similarity:Belongs to the BPI/LBP/Plunc superfamily. BPI/LBP family.,tissue specificity:Wide tissue distribution. Placenta > pancreas > lung > kidney > heart > liver > skeletal muscle > brain.,
