Description | mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase kinase 5(MAP4K5) Homo sapiens This gene encodes a member of the serine/threonine protein kinase family, that is highly similar to yeast SPS1/STE20 kinase. Yeast SPS1/STE20 functions near the beginning of the MAP kinase signal cascades that is essential for yeast pheromone response. This kinase was shown to activate Jun kinase in mammalian cells, which suggested a role in stress response. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008], |

Protein Function | catalytic activity:ATP + a protein = ADP + a phosphoprotein.,cofactor:Magnesium.,function:May play a role in the response to environmental stress. Appears to act upstream of the JUN N-terminal pathway.,similarity:Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. STE Ser/Thr protein kinase family. STE20 subfamily.,similarity:Contains 1 CNH domain.,similarity:Contains 1 protein kinase domain.,subunit:Interacts with both SH3 domains of the adapter proteins CRK and CRKL.,tissue specificity:Ubiquitously expressed in all tissues examined, with high levels in the ovary, testis and prostate., |
