Description protein tyrosine phosphatase type IVA, member 1(PTP4A1) Homo sapiens This gene encodes a member of a small class of prenylated protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs), which contain a PTP domain and a characteristic C-terminal prenylation motif. The encoded protein is a cell signaling molecule that plays regulatory roles in a variety of cellular processes, including cell proliferation and migration. The protein may also be involved in cancer development and metastasis. This tyrosine phosphatase is a nuclear protein, but may associate with plasma membrane by means of its prenylation motif. Pseudogenes related to this gene are located on chromosomes 1, 2, 5, 7, 11 and X. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2013],
Protein Expression Fetal liver,Lung fibroblast,Mammary carcinoma,Muscle,Regene
Subcellular Localization nucleus, cytoplasm, early endosome, endoplasmic reticulum, spindle, cytoplasmic side of plasma membrane, extracellular exosome,
Protein Function catalytic activity:Protein tyrosine phosphate + H(2)O = protein tyrosine + phosphate.,developmental stage:Expressed in fetal liver.,enzyme regulation:Inhibited by sodium orthovanadate and pentamidine.,function:Protein tyrosine phosphatase which stimulates progression from G1 into S phase during mitosis. May play a role in the development and maintenance of differentiating epithelial tissues. Enhances cell proliferation, cell motility and invasive activity, and promotes cancer metastasis.,induction:Strongly down-regulated upon tetrodotoxin treatment.,PTM:Farnesylated. Farnesylation is required for membrane targeting. Unfarnesylated forms are shifted into the nucleus.,similarity:Belongs to the protein-tyrosine phosphatase family.,similarity:Contains 1 tyrosine-protein phosphatase domain.,subcellular location:And mitotic spindle.,subunit:Homotrimer. Interacts with ATF5 (By similarity). Interacts with tubulin.,tissue specificity:Expressed in bone marrow, lymph nodes, T lymphocytes, spleen, thymus and tonsil. Overexpressed in tumor cell lines.,
