Assaying for Amylase Activity (Lab 6C/6D)

Assaying for Amylase Activity (Lab 6C/6D)

This kit is designed to teach 8 groups of four students the principles of enzyme assays.

The kit contains the reagents to allow students to test for the presence and activity of 2 different types of amylase by:

  • Visualizing the breakdown of the starch substrate by the amylase enzyme using an iodine solution
  • Detecting the production of sugars using glucose test strips
  • AND measuring sugar production with Benedict's solution
  • Using positive and negative control samples
  • For 8 groups of 4 students
  • Requires a heat block or hot waterbath and micropipettes and tips

  • HS-LS1: From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes
  • LS1.A: Structure and Function
