Description eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E binding protein 3(EIF4EBP3) Homo sapiens This gene encodes a member of the EIF4EBP family, which consists of proteins that bind to eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E and regulate its assembly into EIF4F, the multi-subunit translation initiation factor that recognizes the mRNA cap structure. Read-through transcription from the neighboring upstream gene (MASK or ANKHD1) generates a transcript (MASK-BP3) that encodes a protein comprised of the MASK protein sequence for the majority of the protein and a different C-terminus due to an alternate reading frame for the EIF4EBP3 segments. Protein Function function:May play a role as a scaffolding protein that may be associated with the abnormal phenotype of leukemia cells. Isoform 2 may possess an antiapoptotic effect and protect cells during normal cell survival through its regulation of caspases.,function:Regulates eIF4E activity by preventing its assembly into the eIF4F complex.,PTM:Phosphorylated.,similarity:Belongs to the eIF4E-binding protein family.,similarity:Belongs to the mask family.,similarity:Contains 1 KH domain.,similarity:Contains 25 ANK repeats.,subunit:EIF4EBP3 interacts with EIF4E.,subunit:Interacts with PTPN11. Isoform 2 interacts with VPR.,tissue specificity:Expression is highest in skeletal muscle, heart, kidney, and pancreas, whereas there is very little expression in brain and thymus.,tissue specificity:Ubiquitous with high expression in cervix, spleen and brain. Expressed in hematopoietic cells with increased expression in leukemia cells. Isoform 2 is highly expressed in spleen with almost no expression in muscle and brain.,
