Description | general transcription factor IIIA(GTF3A) Homo sapiens The product of this gene is a zinc finger protein with nine Cis[2]-His[2] zinc finger domains. It functions as an RNA polymerase III transcription factor to induce transcription of the 5S rRNA genes. The protein binds to a 50 bp internal promoter in the 5S genes called the internal control region (ICR), and nucleates formation of a stable preinitiation complex. This complex recruits the TFIIIC and TFIIIB transcription factors and RNA polymerase III to form the complete transcription complex. The protein is thought to be translated using a non-AUG translation initiation site in mammals based on sequence analysis, protein homology, and the size of the purified protein. Protein Function | caution:It is uncertain whether Met-1 is the initiator. Based on the lack of an in-frame AUG codon, mammalian TFIIIA may be translated from this non-AUG initiation site, which has a good Kozak context and which is well conserved among mammals.,function:Interacts with the internal control region (ICR) of approximately 50 bases within the 5S RNA genes, is required for correct transcription of these genes by RNA polymerase III. Also binds the transcribed 5S RNA's. May initiate transcription of the 5S ribosomal RNA gene and maintain the stability of transcription of other genes.,sequence caution:Translation N-terminally shortened.,similarity:Contains 9 C2H2-type zinc fingers.,tissue specificity:Ubiquitous., |
